Happy Thanksgiving!
Riding with Jamies brother Stephen in his car. We three are going up to Jamies moms house about 170 miles to the north. Gonna have a lot of food and drink today, watch a game or two on the tube, and give thanks for what I have and what I have the chance to earn in the near future.
Best wishes to all our friends and family, and may the comming holiday season find you in good health and good cheer.

8:20pm in Maryland.
Jamie and I are in a rental car driving down to Washington D. C. to be at her friend Liza's wedding tomorrow. We are rocking out to Ben Folds and all I can think about is what all this area I am seeing pass by looked like 200 years ago in our nations infancy.
I have a job interview early Tuesday morning. It is a second interview with the company president. This position is to apprentice under the head machinist at MicroMould, up in Yonkers to the north of where I now live. An hour and a half by subway to train to bus and ending in about a one mile hike.
They want to know if I am willing to get a car, cutting my travel time down to around 25 minutes, but incurring a yearly expense of about $2600 more than commuting via public transit.
The position is also long term, meaning that the master machinist I would be apprenticing under would be training me to replace him. He is in his 80's and wants to retire. He is also German and a bit hard to understand.
Micromould would be taking the risk that I may not make a career out of the position.
I am at a point where I need a good career. Yet I never invisioned myself as a machinist in Yonkers. I don't know what the compensation offered to me will be, but a strong offer is going to be hard to ignore.
I am looking at losing my dream of a degree in music. Then again I could never earn any degree while homeless and starving.
It comes down to earning some sort of a degree online. Not in music.
Live in comfort and security and lose my art, or keep my art and slowly diminish into miserable poverty.
I know it sounds melow dramatic but my feelings are valid to me at least.
Well there is always Washington D. C. to look forward to visiting.
Peace from the East
Justin

NYC Update
Hi, sorry its been a while since the last posting. Last night Jamie acted in a 24hour event at NYU. Six play writes, six directors, 18 actors, and a stage manager had one day to write, cast, reherse, and perform six one act plays. Jamie was wonderful, playing a woman that didn't want to plan her wedding with her fiance. Sort of a case of art imitating life haha. She had the audience laughing and cheering at points. There wasn't an empty seat in the house. I had to stand in the back.
After the plays we walked around with her director, and her plays writer looking for The Apple Bar for the after party. Turns out the place was about half a block from the theater, but we spent about 45 minutes walking in circles trying to find it.
Adventures!
I was quite miserable, having been sick with flu for three days and having not had a thing to eat in the last two days. But I would not have missed it for the world, and I would do it all again.
Miss you SD.

Update to our time in Colorado
Now that we are setteled in here in New York and have had a couple of days of rest I wanted to post some more photos from the trip that we had stored in the camera. These are all from Glenwood Springs Colorado. One of the local attractions was the Fairy Caves inside Iron Mountain. There was a 15 minute cable car ride up the mountain and about a 45 minute tour through the caves. It was breathtaking!! |

New York
We arrived at 9:45pm at Pattys place (Jamies wonderful mom). We are 170 miles north of Manhattan and will be here for the next few days untill our belongings get to Ny and are ready for delivery to our place in Queens.
It is so good to be off of the road. Whipple and Bandit are in good spirits and we are all ready for a day or two of rest.

Notre Dame part 2
When we were done with the bank we took a walk through the ND campus with Whipple. Jamie showed me the highlights of campus as well as her old dorm building, the golden dome, the basilica, the grotto, and the book store where she got a mug and a key chain.
Whipple left his own personal mark on the campus here and there. I guess he must be a fan of USC. (Just kidding Jamie).
I will post some photos later on.
Currently it is 8:15pm and Jamies turn to drive. We are a third of the way through Ohio headed for Pittsburgh Pa and it's time for me to rest my eyes.
Miss you all.

Notre Dame
We are stopped here at ND so Jamie can pull a cashiers check out of her credit union. I am outside with the animals while she is inside. Not far from me is the University of Notre Dame marching band on a field, marching and trying out the freshmen. Fun fun.

Indianapolis
We stayed the night with Jamies college friends Tiffany and Ben who live in Indianapolis. They made us spinach lasagna then took us out for drinks on the town. On the street in down town were these two mailbox sized bins that read: 'Truth' and 'Lies'. I guess anyone can just write a note and choose a bin to drop it into.
Ben works for a company called Festool, a high end power tool manufacturer. He and I had a good time 'talking shop'. (Don't worrie JR...you're still my main man).
More to come later.

Thursday...
Drove from Iowa through Illinois and into Indiana where we are staying with Tiffany, Jamies friend from college. The countryside is so green and lush out here. Good amounts of rain too for it being Summer.
Speaking of 'Indiana', that is the name of Jennys kitten. We stayed with Jenny last night. She is a friend from SD that moved out to Iowa last year. I will post some shots of her place and her kitten.

Someone decided to throw flatlands, cows, corn fields, and truckers into a blender...pour it all out just to the northeast of Colorado and call it Nebraska. Wow look, another cow. Oh another corn. And another. Oh a truck. .....................

Utah
On the road thru Utah we hit the heaviest rain I have ever seen. Jamie and I out ran that storm in no time and now are under clear blue skies. It is so amazingly beautiful here! I think we are still a good couple hours from my cousin Nicoles house in Glenwood Springs CO. Gonna spend 2 nights with her to give both us and our poor pets a much needed break and rest. Miss you already San Diego, but I feel really good about the future in NY. Will try and post some pics from the road soon.

First stop-Vegas
80mph got us to Vegas in almost enough time to see MamaMia! From the start. But we only missed the prologue so it wasn't so bad. The show itself was great and after we had a bite with Moriah (the star and our good friend). It was cute to see all the people wanting her autograph, or a picture with her.
